Michele Boscacci remains the man to beat, and in Saalbach wins the Mountain Attack 2019

Michele Boscacci wins again the Mountain Attack, the hardest and most extreme overnight skimountaineering race. For him a finish time of 1h57'23" that allowed him to keep behind the Austrians Armin Hofl and Jakob Hermann. In the marathon competition double win for La Sportiva thanks to Alex Oberbacher and Elena Nicolini.

The unbelievable 2h18'57 " record time set in Saalbach last year by Michele Boscacci could not be touched this year, since because of the heavy snowfall in the past months, the organizing committee was forced to remove the last 400m of the second steep rise to ensure the safety of athletes and volunteers.

But the Mountain Attack remains one of the most difficult and suggestive overnight races of the season, and the best athletes on the international scene did not miss to be present at the starting line. So, for the twenty-first edition of the race invented by Roland Kurz, in 1100 participants from twenty-two nations took part in the race to the Schatt-berg last January 11th.

Of the three scheduled races, the Schattberg Race, the Tour race and the Marathon, only the longest one has seen a modification of the track, which maintaining the usual format of 3 climbs and 3 descents, brought the height gain to 2600m.

Even if the race isn't started with the expectation to beat the record, there was still a leadership to rewrite as demonstration of strength before starting with the first World Cup stage next weekend. Give the results and how he managed the whole race, there are no doubts: Michele Boscacci is and remains the man to beat this season.

The athlete of CS Esercito and La Sportiva ambassador immediately took the lead making is own race, showing the real strength of a champion so humble in everyday life, so determined in competitions.

"My compliments go to Jakob and Armin who have completed the podium, as they have given me the right boost to push hard throughout the race, and to the organization that every year, here in Saalbach, is able to set up this spectacular event. "

The victory of the women’s race goes to Alba De Silvestro, at her first experience with the Mountain Attack. Following the Italian athlete on the podium, Claudia Galicia and Michaela Essl.

In the Tour race, a huge success branded La Sportiva thanks to Alex Oberbacher (1:41:58), at the finish line together with Daniel Zugg and Alex Brandner. Great return on the podium also for Elena Nicolini that describes her victory as double worthy “because with it I’m taking back my life. Ski mountaineering is a part of me, I like this sport, the environment, training. In the last two years I have always been on skis, but they were two difficult years, with many problems that have now are fortunately resolved. This success means a lot: if you hold on, if you don’t give up at the end you’ll always win.”
