Sciacchetrail 2018: Georg Piazza and Clare Gallagher on the top rung of the podium


Georg Piazza king in Monterosso after a wonderful battle with Luca Carrara, which leads him to triumph in the ultra trail of the Cinque Terre. The American Clare Gallagher, new entry in the La Sportiva mountain Running Team, grabs the 2018 title.

A perfect morning to run greeted the fourth edition of SciaccheTrail last 24th of March, with the spring blossoming, and the characteristic windy climate and fair temperatures of the Italian region. Slightly less than 50km by 2300m of climbing, sparingly designed in the unique scenery of Cinque Terre, trough perched villages, vineyards and paths that border the sea.

From the very beginning, a small group composed by the most awaited athletes started to lead the race, with Italians Luca Carrara, Georg Piazza, Francesco Trenti and the American Leonard Strnad.

After 30km characterized by continuous changes at the head of the race, is the last and most technical part of the race to divide the group, leading the La Sportiva ambassador Georg Piazza completely alone at the finish line with a time of 4h33'43”.

Nothing to do for the opponent of Bergamo Luca Carrara, who comes 2nd with +2minutes on the final time. Third on the podium, Lenny Strnad with 4h47'12 ".
 
Women's race was more sealed, with the new entry in the La Sportiva Mountain Running Team Clare Gallagher to attack Amanda Nicole Basham, in second position during the entire race. A score unchanged until the last descent where Basham lost almost 3'. No more trouble for Gallagher, that crossed the finish line as first in 5h15'23 ". second position for Basham with 5h24'19 ", third for Gitti Shiebel with 6h01'04"

A fourth edition promoted by both athletes and local authorities, with the perfect combination between the off-road race and the territory that keeps on making the Sciacchetrail an event with a great attraction. Special guest, the ultra running legend and ambassador La Sportiva Anton Krupicka, who was present on the track cheering the athletes and then to the finish line to celebrate the riders and chat with the fans.
