La Sportiva becomes “Eco”, and at OutDoor2016 wins the award for sustainability

The “sustainable” re-edition of the famous climbing shoe Mythos, astonishes the crowds at Friedrichshafen, and wins the award in the Sustainable Innovations category.

Friedrichshafen, Germany hosts the annual International sports goods trade show, an event not to be missed by the most important names in the outdoor sector. A look ahead at things to come, from the 13th to the 16th of July, visitors to the show were able to take a sneak preview at the collections for next summer and the many innovations on offer for the next summer season.

Lots of new and innovative products by La Sportiva: from a totally new stand thru to the even wider clothing line.  From climbing to running, from hiking to extreme mountaineering, the Trentino based brand presented amazing innovations in  all its product categories, although one particular product managed to grab the attention and gain the general consensus of onlookers and critics alike.

The shoe in question is Mythos Eco, the sustainable interpretation of the mythical La Sportiva climbing shoe “Mythos”, designed in Val di Fiemme in 1991, and which 25 years later, still remains one of the key  products for long routes enthusiasts who accept no compromise for comfort and protection ... And now, from next year, Mythos fans will also be able to feel even closer and more respectful of the environment around them too.

Made from eco-friendly materials to minimize environmental impact, as many as 95% of the shoe’s components are derived from entirely recycled materials, like the lace ribbons, the padding for the tongue and the outsole (obtained by recycling the rubber used in the manufacturing process) and with reduced environmental impact (metal free tanning, biodegradable leather, water-based adhesives).
A concept which La Sportiva has been striving to promote for many years and which can be seen as the “natural evolution” of the company’s growth process. A “thank you” to the environment and to the mountains that are home to the company’s main production site, and a concept that has finally become reality in the making of a new  shoe which was selected by the OutDoor 2016 jury for the Sustainable Innovations award, over a total of 343 articles (record number of entrants ) proposed by the various companies: “ A forward looking idea that we should all welcome, especially if we think of the fast and easy nature of climbing shoes.”
