WHO WE ARE
Jacopo Larcher - Strange Heroes
Italian technical footwear, clothing and accessories brand La Sportiva has used its online sales during the recent so-called ‘Black Friday’ weekend to support nature conservation.
By donating 15% of the weekend’s income to the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA), La Sportiva has been able to boost the funds available to the Association and give back to the great outdoors.EOCA was delighted to be contacted by member brand La Sportiva in the autumn, which wanted to raise extra funds for the Association to spend on conservation as an answer to combat a weekend increasingly used for ‘over-indulgence’ and was promoted in both La Sportiva and EOCA’s communications before and during the weekend. In total, an additional €2000 for the Association was raised and EOCA will put 100% of this money into the conservation projects it supports during 2018. These projects will be chosen by members of the Association and also the public during an annual online vote. EOCA funds conservation projects around the world which conserve threatened landscapes, habitats and species, and which also have a clear link to the outdoor enthusiast. Catherine Savidge, Joint General Manager of EOCA said ‘We are extremely grateful to the team at La Sportiva which has been very supportive of EOCA since it joined four years ago. They have always been involved in activities to raise further funds and awareness for conservation. This move to raising funds and awareness with customers online has proved to be very positive and we very much look forward to committing the funds to worthwhile projects next year.” “As a Brand born and operating in the mountains for almost 90 years, La Sportiva pays careful attention to environmental and climate issues.” Says Francesco Trenti, La Sportiva E-commerce Manager. “We are aware of how the landscape around us is changing and it’s our responsibility to inform our fans and clients and invite them to take action. Since we are a partner of EOCA from many years and believe in the project, we thought the Black Friday, as a perfect occasion to spread the mission of the Association and devolve part of the incomes to it.Hopefully in the near future, more companies will care for this type of projects, with the objective of supporting the most precious thing we have and belong to: planet earth’About La SportivaLa Sportiva was born in 1928 when Narciso Delladio hand-crafted wooden leather boots for many lumber-jacks and farmers of the Fassa and Fiemme valleys (Dolomites, Italy). After the war, the demand for boots increased obliging Narciso to hire new workers: the good name of "Calzoleria Sportiva" crossed the boarders of the valleys. Starting from here the La Sportiva’s history continued to grow. Now the firm produces in Fiemme Valley boots and shoes for all kind of outdoor activities from climbing and mountain, categories in which La Sportiva has the market leadership, to mountain running, trekking and the skimountaineerging market. Recently the company entered in the skimountaineering segment and in the apparel market with a complete selection of technical clothes for running, skimountaineering and climbing. La Sportiva who produces mainly in his headquarter at Ziano di Fiemme, is distributed in more then 70 countries worldwide. Notes to Editors: The European Outdoor Conservation Association is an initiative from the European outdoor industry with the objective of protecting the wild areas it cares so passionately about.Designed to harness the incredible power of the outdoor industry and to raise money to donate to grassroots conservation groups, the European Outdoor Conservation Association is funded by membership and other fundraising activities within the outdoor industry. 100% of membership fees go to the support of projects. Membership is open to anyone that can demonstrate an involvement in the European outdoor industry. From January 2015, a select group of ‘Sustaining Members’ pledged their support to EOCA by committing to fund the sustainable growth of the organisation with an extra €10,000 per year for the following three years, over and above their annual membership fee. This money finances the running of the Association and supports its sustainable growth. The seven EOCA Sustaining Members are: OutDoor (Messe Friedrichshafen), Pertex, KEEN Footwear, Nikwax, ISPO (Messe München), Patagonia and the European Outdoor Group (EOG), which is also the Founder Member of the Association.
