Ski Mountaineering
With just over 1 month before the start of the first edition of the La Sportiva Epic Ski Tour, a big event dedicated to ski mountaineering which will take place over 3 days on the snow of the Trentino, Valleys of Fiemme and Fassa, and which aims to create an epic sporting event for ski mountaineering enthusiasts of all levels. The Epic Ski tour is designed for the big names in ski mountaineering and for the most quoted there is a prize pool of € 46,000 – up for grabs for amateurs too.
In the first edition there are a number of surprises, starting with the well known enrolment of mountaineer Tamara Lunger, (bib number 01) who did not want to miss the opportunity to get back on skis after competing with the colours of the Italian National Ski mountaineering team, and the latest confirmations of three important names of the international skimountaineering world.
Among the starter, we’ll find out the young gun and Espoir Champion 2016 Nadir Maguet, the World Champion and winner of La grand course Michele Boscacci and the italian talent Filippo Beccari.
The La Sportiva Epic Skitour will start on Friday, January 13th, 2017 with a nocturnal ski mountaineering race on Mount Cermis, with the route partly on the ski slopes and partly off-piste, then continuing on Saturday, January 14th, with skis both on foot and on the shoulders at Passo San Pellegrino, closing with a flourish on Sunday, January 15th at the Passo Pordoi. La Sportiva EPIC Ski Tour will not only be an incredible ski race, but a great happening too. It will take place the weekend following the end of the Tour de Ski race with fulcrum at Palafiemme Cavalese where there will be the race desk, the « village » and all the other related events.
Registration for the 2017 edition is still open and the www.epicskitour.com provides further information and live news.
To participate, athletes must provide a medical certificate of fitness for sports and pay the race fee of 160 euro which allows participants to take part in all 3 races in addition to receiving the La Sportiva Combo Helmet helmet with a commercial value of 139 euro, the first on the market with the approval for both mountaineering and skialp (EN 12492, EN 1007 class B) as required by the new regulations for international competition skialp.
