Regarding the garment: I have purchased this jacket to use it at the climbing crag when I'm belaying, never when climbing. To use it as a warm midlayer when the weather is cold, or as an outer layer in warmer weather with wind resistant (not windproof) properties.
Also for the approach, I never do the hiking with the down jacket on. I like the full zip so I can open it when I'm overheating.
I have been taking a look to similar options, like the Mountain Equipment Shroud Jacket (which is a brand that I'm really fan of), but I have finally chosen La Sportiva Bristen Hoody because I think that the fit is much better for me. I wear an S. I also prefer the two-way zip feature.
I have been using the jacket for three weeks and I'm very happy with the purchase. I find the jacket light, warm enough and non-restrictive for moving, either as an outer layer or as a midlayer. High quality materials and well finished. Not sure yet how will it cope with spiky bushes, but I think I won't try.

TECHSTRETCH™ STORM’s unique patented single layer woven technology unites softshell and fl eece into one, achieving the right balance between breathability, wind resistance and water repellency.
