The second edition of La Sportiva Epic Ski Tour ends at the Pordoi Pass in Val di Fassa (TN) with the stage and overall victory of the Italian Michele Boscacci on Martin Anthamatten and Werner Marti. To the female Victoria Kreuzer wins all the stages and the title heading Jennifer Fiechter and Corinna Ghirardi, for an extremely positive balance that has seen 10 Countries at the start.
The Boscacci family covers three generations of ski mountaineering, and it was grandfather Umberto who took little Michele, at the age of five, to start skiing exploring the peaks. A passion and a true heritage the one of the Boscacci family, that led the Italian athlete Michele Boscacci to win all three stages and the overall title of this Epic Ski Tour 2018.
The first stage, considered easier than the others, saw the start from the valley cable car station Alpe Cermis, climbing along a forest road until the locality Doss dei Laresi. After other 350 meters of gain in altitude, the final descent on the Cermis slopes, completing the 9.5 k of the course.
39 minutes and 2 seconds the time that crowned Michele as the winner in the first day: "I already knew that against my opponents of the World Cup there were no mistakes allowed - says the athlete of CS Esercito and La Sportiva ambassador – this was a short but mindset race, I arrived at the highest point as second behind Werner Marti, and facing the descent on a slope in first position is never easy. I didn’t know the track, but I risked a little bit and the final change of skins was really lucky and I was able to win ". An exciting and strategic change of skin placed only 100 meters from the finish line rewarded the show, giving athletes the chance to overturn the result at the last moment. A crux part that has seen Boscacci overwhelm Werner Marti (39:16), second classified, and Remi Bonnet (39:22), third.
Less thrilling was the women's challenge, which saw Victoria Kreuzer opening the series of successes by arriving completely alone at the finish line (48:40), a couple of minutes before the second woman Jennifer Fiechter (50:18) and the third classified Corinna Girardi (51:08). "The races are never easy to win – assured Victoria - I went beyond my limit trying to always go to my best".
Not even an unlucky fall was able to limit the supremacy of Michele Boscacci during the second act of La Sportiva Epic Ski Tour, held Saturday at Passo San Pellegrino, succeeding once again to impose itself on Werner Marti (57:13), and Martin Anthamatten (57 : 17). Among women Victoria Kreuzer, leaves little space for opponents and signed the personal second victory in front of Jennifer Fiechter (1:12) and Corinna Ghirardi (1:16).
The direction of the second stage by Thomas Zanoner, has reserved the departure to the valley station of the Col Margherita cable car, before taking the forest road that leads to the Col de le Palue. From here to top Lastè di Pradazzo up to 2580 meters, change of skins, and first descent before going up again the second climb to the entrance of the "Le Caviette" slop, start point of the final descent.
Final stage, a skilled ski mountaineering test characterized by wind, snow, fog and conditions that anything have to envy to the greatest sporting chronicles and that have forced Oswald Santin, race director, to change track starting and arriving at 2240 meters of Passo Pordoi after having faced 9.5 km and 830 meters in altitude, between forest roads and the Pian Schiavaneis, at the foot of the two spectacular Dolomite passes Sella and Pordoi.
Michele Boscacci and Victoria Kreuzer still protagonists in this great final, which leads them to win the title of champions 2018. Spectacular triple-win for both, even if the Swiss Martin Anthamatten has challenged the Italian’s result thanks to an incredible comeback, although insufficient to overcome the opponent, left with a 19 second margin. "I tried clenching my teeth and gaining ground avoiding mistakes. I am satisfied with these tests and amazed by the organizational machine of an impeccable race where nothing is left to chance. "
In the women's race, Victoria Kreuzer triumphed by giving another two minutes to the second classified Jennifer Fiechter: "Fantastic race, I'm delighted to have been part of this wonderful event that presented three stages in three different locations." Third day, Severine Pont Combe, while Corinna Ghirardi grabbed the third place overall.
At the finish also Jurg Capol, creator of the Epic Ski Tour with Kurt Anrather. "A very positive balance. Today the weather was not the best, but we are in the mountains and it is nice to compete with these conditions too. We talked to several competitors and everyone was satisfied with the welcome and the format ".
Between inversions, breathtaking descents and unique landscapes in the world, ski mountaineering is a real show and all the participants agreed to positively evaluate the organization of the event, enriched in the three days also by numerous side events and delicious menus at the Navalge Theater of Moena, for a "La Sportiva Epic Ski Tour" that smells of tradition among the snowy peaks.
