La Sportiva Mountain Running Cup 2021: the 9th edition is underway

Now in its ninth edition, the circuit of the finest skyraces in Italy signed by La Sportiva is renewed and aims to give a signal of recovery to a season that hesitates to start.

Having filed a standby season for the whole world of running, La Sportiva re-proposes the famous Mountain Running Cup circuit, with the aim of allowing the most demanding skyrunners to give as good as they get in a selection of exciting races. The purpose of the circuit has always been to allow runners to experience “sky-high” emotions and for this edition too there will be technical routes, breathtaking views and challenges on the crests of the most demanding skyraces in Italy.

"The pandemic forced us to cancel the entire 2020 edition and we had to accept it" states Matteo Demicheli, athletes & events manager for trail running and ski mountaineering "but this year we coordinated with the organizers of the individual stages to respect all anti-Covid19 regulations and it is our intention to allow all skyrunners to fulfill their wishes and wear a bib ”.

The big news of the year is the introduction of a "Prologue" race, the Colmen Trail in Morbegno, which with its 16 km will be used to warm up the engines on 9 May, in view of the following stages. Despite the reduced mileage compared to subsequent appointments, it is a very fast and intense race, absolutely not to be underestimated to earn the points necessary for the general classification. Going into details Demicheli continued: "We really like the idea of making a prologue to the circuit also to give a restart signal. It is important to keep alive the values and emotions that this sport transmits and it is our intention to speak out and give runners the opportunity to pursue their goals”.

Calendar in hand, after the debut in Valtellina, Ledro Sky on Sunday 13 June, now a veteran of the circuit, will be the second challenge. The Pizzostella Skymarathon has been reconfirmed, after its successful debut in the eighth edition, with the promise of giving a hard time to the most ambitious skyrunners: 36 km, more than 2500 meters in altitude and breathtaking views. Appointment in Campodolcino (SO) on Sunday 11 July. Instead, we will return to Trentino on the first of August for the official debut in the Vigolana The Race circuit, which with its 20 km and almost 2000 meters of elevation gain plows the skies of the Adige valley between vertical walls and truly technical routes.

The finals will take place in Val di Fiemme, in the magnificent setting of the Latemar group, where the circuit will be dealt with. It will in fact be on the occasion of the Latemar Mountain Race, a race orchestrated by the impeccable Cornacci company and scheduled for 12 September, that the Mountain Running Cup will end and the official winners will be announced.
Not only the final awards ceremony in Pampeago, but there will also be the delivery of personalized finisher prizes to all those who have completed at least three out of five races. What are you waiting for to register?
