Now
we have reached the end of the national sport-climbing season. The last
event has taken place in Pistoia, Toscana, inside the sporting center
"Legno Rosso". New artificial wall, built by Eco Grips of
Trento, with Attilio Munari from Veneto as route setter. Satisfying the
attendance of competitors and spectators. Good organization. In the men's
field another victory for the winner of the past edition, Bernardino
Lagni, reigning world champion. Behind him the Carabiniere of Cortina,
Luca Zardini "Canon", very motivated to recover precious points
in the general ranking. Third another athlete of the military sporting
corps, who recently became a member of the Fiamme Gialle di Moena, Flavio
Crespi. In the women's field continues the predominance without rivals of
Jenny Lavarda, today more than ever sure of her possibilities, as the only
rival who could make her worry, Luisa Iovane, hasn't taken part to
national competition for the past few months. Anyway, behind the champion
of Schio life goes on, waiting for new surprises. In Pistoia placed second
and third Alessandra Francone and Mirella Frati, two athletes of the old
guard. Partial delusion, this time for the promises from Emilia, Donati
and Garavini, who reached respectively the fourth and fifth place. So ends
the 2000 series of the national trophy and comes the moment of the balance
and of the reflections. Among the many things to say, of course, is
remarkable the predominance on the top of the club "El Maneton"
from Schio (VI), who conquers both men's and women's category, with Dino
Lagni and Jenny Lavarda. Same success as last year, with the same names.
Congratulations for athletes and coaches of the club of Veneto, who seam
to have found the right formula to reach sport values at absolute level,
notwithstanding start positions worse than others have. This a reason more
to applaud champions like Jenny and Dino, who manage, with lots of
sacrifices, to fulfill important everyday duties: Jenny goes to school and
Dino is family father and works, with the satisfactions of the sporting
life. It leaves us amazed the fact that there are professional athletes of
the military corps behind, very far behind Bernardino. Wouldn't it be the
case, for the responsibles of the sector, to think better about this
matter and offer some opportunities to somebody who really deserves it?
Final note for the women's sector. This year we are seeing the event we
have been waiting for long. Young athletes emerge and craate movement
around the phenomenon climbing. Let's hope that this represents the first
signal of a concrete change in the sport, the one who gets the youngsters
always more near to the competitive sector of sport climbing.
