 The
town Gap, at the feet of the French Alps, organizes for the first time an
international climbing competition, with Bouldering formula, it means the
easiest to organize, especially regarding the expenses. Four huge
artificial boulders, scattered on a field in the shopping center of the
alpine town, were the playing ground for several participants, attracted
also by rich prizes. It becomes always more important to give recognition
to such events, which represent the true sportive passion. These events,
big or small, are possible only because many volunteers don't request
anything more than to be appreciated for what they can offer to spectators
and athletes, and have contributed to give climbing the image and sport
dignity it has today.  And
they were rewarded by the fact that Eurosport filmed the whole competition
and is going to broadcast it in July, competition that will take place
again next year, thanks to the success of spectators. For the record, we
should underline to always growing success of the Eastern countries
specialists, especially from ex-USSR, like the Kazakis Kasbekov and
Rakhmetov, the Russian Choumilova and the polish Gronkiewicz. To the
protagonists and dominators of the past this time remains very little. The
winner of the women's title of last year Bouldering World Cup, Stephanie
Bodet has declared her intention to participate only to Master
competitions, because she feels more motivated for the high difficulty on
natural rock, activity that requests a very different type of training
from Bouldering. At last we should underline the excellent effort of
Giulia Gianmarco, who nearly missed the women's final, placing sixth
because of a try more on a qualification boulder.
