Campitello di Fassa, 12 July 1998 National Sport Climbing Master

This is the first time in the history that a competition takes place outside on the new climbing wall of Campitello di Fassa. The wall built by the Company Sint Rock of Arco has been therefore used, a year after its inauguration, for the first time for a competition of a certain level: a national master.

The qualification: in the event are present the best athlets of CNP, the national permanent ranking, beside some important absents like Brenna, Calibani, Lella and the young female promise Jenny Lavarda. Sunday, 12 July, in the morning: at the start around 40 climbers, 26 men and 11 woman, who begin to compare on the first qualification routes. The route setters of the event, Tito Pozzoli and Andrea Jannon have set selection routes may be too easy, particularly the men's route (7c-7c+) completed by 15 competitors. To note the return to the competitions of Leonardo Di Marino, historical competitor in the Eighties, and then top national route setter in the Nineties. Unfortunately Leonardo was the first excluded from the final, that, for this time, he was only able to touch. The satisfaction of reconquering, at the venerable age of 35 years, a place in the sun of the national elite, is postponed to the next events. The things went in a different way in the women's field, with only two chains (Iovane and Marchisio) of eleven competitors. The first part of the competition was over at about 2 P.M., and some hours of rest allowed the route setters to prepare the new routes.
